Early Fall Apple Cinnamon Oats Crisp: 5-Ingredient Cozy Dessert

  • Author: Emily
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

A simple, cozy dessert made with just five ingredients. This crisp features tender spiced apples topped with a crunchy, buttery oat mixture, ready in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 medium apples (about 1.5 lbs / 680g), peeled, cored, and chopped into ½-inch cubes (mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended)
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (90g)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted (115g)
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar (100g)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus more for sprinkling
  • Pinch of salt (optional)
  • Splash of lemon juice (optional, if apples are sweet)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the chopped apples with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar. Spread evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the oats, remaining ½ cup brown sugar, and melted butter until the mixture resembles wet sand.
  4. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples. Do not press down; let it sit loose to ensure crunchiness.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a fork. If the topping browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil for the last 10 minutes.
  6. Let the crisp cool for 10 minutes before serving to allow juices to thicken. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.

Notes

For extra nuttiness, toast the oats in a dry pan for 2 minutes before mixing. Ensure butter is fully melted for even coating. Let cool for 10 minutes to prevent runny texture. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F for best texture.
