Easy Back-to-School Ham and Cheese Sliders for Kids

  • Author: Emily
  • Total Time: 25-27 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Description

A quick, stress-free dinner solution featuring sweet Hawaiian rolls layered with ham and sharp cheddar, topped with a savory garlic butter glaze. Perfect for busy weeknights and picky eaters.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf (12-count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 6 oz (170g) sliced deli ham
  • 8 oz (225g) sharp cheddar cheese (sliced or shredded)
  • 4 tbsp (56g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp poppy seeds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking dish with parchment paper or grease lightly.
  2. Place the loaf of Hawaiian rolls on a cutting board. Using a sharp serrated knife, slice the loaf horizontally in half, keeping the rolls connected.
  3. Layer the ham evenly across the bottom half of the rolls. Add half of the cheese, then the ham, then the remaining cheese on top to help it melt better.
  4. Place the top half of the rolls back onto the filled bottom half and press down gently.
  5. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir in the garlic powder and poppy seeds.
  6. Generously brush the butter glaze over the top of the rolls, ensuring it gets into the crevices between the rolls.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  8. Let cool for 3-5 minutes before cutting along the score lines and serving warm.

Notes

For best results, use sharp cheddar for flavor. If using shredded cheese, shred it yourself to avoid anti-caking agents. Do not freeze unbaked sliders as the texture will become dense. Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350°F for 5 minutes to restore crispiness.
