Description
A creamy, smooth, and energizing iced matcha latte made with ceremonial grade matcha, honey, and your choice of milk. This healthy, customizable drink takes just 5 minutes to prepare and costs significantly less than coffee shop versions.
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder (about 4 grams)
- 2 tablespoons hot water (not boiling, approx. 175°F/80°C)
- 1–2 teaspoons raw honey (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup cold milk of choice (oat, almond, or whole milk)
- 1 cup ice cubes
- Optional: ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: ½ teaspoon matcha powder for dusting
Instructions
- Sift the ceremonial grade matcha powder into a small bowl to remove clumps.
- Add 2 tablespoons of hot water (not boiling) to the matcha powder.
- Whisk vigorously in a rapid ‘W’ or ‘M’ motion using a bamboo whisk or fork until a smooth, glossy paste forms (about 15-20 seconds).
- Fill a large glass with ice cubes.
- Pour the cold milk over the ice.
- Add the honey to the milk and stir until fully dissolved. If the honey is thick, warm it slightly to help it dissolve.
- Pour the bright green matcha paste over the honey-sweetened milk and ice.
- Gently stir 3-4 times to integrate the flavors while preserving some visual layering.
- Optional: Sift a tiny pinch of matcha powder over the top as a garnish.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
Use ceremonial grade matcha for the best flavor; culinary grade is too bitter for drinking. Do not use boiling water as it burns the matcha and creates bitterness. For extra creaminess, use oat milk. If making ahead, store the matcha paste in the fridge for up to 2 days.
