Description
A refreshing, hydrating summer drink made with just watermelon, mint, and lime. This simple 3-ingredient recipe is ready in 5 minutes and provides a natural boost of hydration without added sugar.
Ingredients
- 4 cups cubed watermelon (about 600g)
- 1 cup packed fresh mint leaves (about 30g)
- 2 medium limes (about 60ml juice)
- 1 cup ice (optional, for slushy texture)
- 1–2 tablespoons agave or simple syrup (optional, if watermelon is not sweet)
- Pinch of salt (optional, to enhance sweetness)
Instructions
- Cut the watermelon into cubes, yielding about 4 cups. If using a whole melon, slice off the rind and cut the flesh into chunks.
- Wash the fresh mint leaves thoroughly and shake off excess water.
- Roll the limes on the counter to release juices, then cut and squeeze to obtain about 60ml of fresh lime juice.
- Add the watermelon cubes, mint leaves, lime juice, and optional sweetener to a blender.
- Add ice if desired. Blend on high for 30-45 seconds until the mixture is completely smooth and vibrant pink.
- Place a fine-mesh strainer or nut milk bag over a large bowl or pitcher. Pour the blended mixture into the strainer.
- Press the pulp against the mesh with a spoon or squeeze the bag to extract as much liquid as possible.
- Taste the juice and adjust by adding more lime for tartness or more watermelon/sweetener for sweetness.
- Pour over fresh ice in tall glasses and garnish with a sprig of mint and a lime wheel. Serve immediately.
Notes
For best results, use ripe watermelon with a yellow field spot. Chill ingredients beforehand for a colder drink without dilution. Use frozen watermelon cubes instead of ice to prevent watering down the flavor. The juice separates if stored, so stir well before drinking. Do not freeze the finished juice as the texture will change.
