Zesty Tamarind Chili Lime Margarita

  • Author: Emily
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Description

A bold, spicy, and tangy summer cocktail that combines tequila, fresh lime juice, and tamarind paste for a complex flavor profile with adjustable heat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ounces Tequila Blanco
  • 1.5 ounces Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 tablespoon Tamarind Paste
  • 0.5 to 1 teaspoon Agave Nectar
  • Tajín or Chili Powder (for rimming)
  • Pinch of Salt (optional, for rim)
  • Ice (large cubes preferred)
  • Splash of Cold Water (optional, to dilute tamarind)
  • Optional: Fresh Jalapeño slices (for extra heat)
  • Optional Garnish: Lime wheels, chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass and dip into Tajín or chili powder mixed with salt if desired. Set aside.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine tequila, fresh lime juice, tamarind paste, and agave nectar.
  3. Stir the mixture well to dissolve the tamarind paste; add a teaspoon of warm water if the paste is too sticky.
  4. Optional: Add sliced jalapeño to the shaker and gently muddle to release oils for extra spice.
  5. Fill the shaker with ice, secure the lid, and shake hard for 10-15 seconds until very cold.
  6. Strain the mixture into the prepared glasses over fresh ice.
  7. Garnish with a lime wheel and a sprinkle of chili powder.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

Tamarind paste is the key ingredient; ensure it is pure paste, not candy with added sugar. If the tamarind is hard, microwave it for 10 seconds to soften. For a pitcher, multiply ingredients by 4 and shake in batches. The drink is best made fresh, but the base can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours before adding ice.
